Mac storage tips

January 17, 2010

I have two G-Technology drives connected to the iMac via firewire.  The 2TB Raid drive contains my data (word, excel, and other files),Aperture and iTunes library.

The second G-Tech is a 2TB G-Drive – This is used for time machine and also to hold snap copies of the data.  I take a snap once a week using Parachute from creativebe.com.

I am keeping little data on the iMac internal drive as i can then take the 2TB Raid drive to another machine and access the files.  Also if I had to bring in the iMac for repair i would not have the data

Performance of the Firewire raid drive is as good or better then the internal drive as the OS and data are not in competition for disk IO

Leica X1 is not in my future at this time

December 20, 2009

Well,

I had planned to purchase the X1 – however with the latest reviews and my testing of the demo units I will not be purchasing the unit.  Hopefully Leica will take a second look and address the concerns.  In addition many of us are using Aperture and don’t need Lightroom so that should be looked at as well.

Was considering to get the Canon 35mm lens – but I will continue to use my D-Lux 4

Seca 700 and Garmin Edge 500

December 14, 2009

I have had the light for about 4 months, it worked well with the Cateye v2c and the Garmin Edge 500 – in other words I did not loose any computer data when I turned on the light

It seems that the RF from these high lumen lights blows out the Cateye Strada compters.

Firmware upgrade on the Leica D-Lux 4

December 12, 2009

I upgraded the firmware on the D-Lux 4 – so far I am happy with the improvements and the changes.  The new profile “high dynamic” gives interesting results and will need to test it out further.

No new update on the Leica X1 – still on the fence about getting it.  The D-Lux 4 firmware also improved autofocus so I am sure that Leica can address that on the X1

I do like the grip that I purchased last week for the D-Lux 4 – very nice
